Alison L. Sigethy
After 20 years in marketing and print production, Alison
left the corporate world to pursue her love of paddling and
art. She stays busy making kayaks and other environment-
inspired sculptures in her glass studio and paddles whenever
she can.
Paddling Experience
Alison has been paddling for seven years and teaching
kayaking for six. She is an ACA Open Water Instructor,
an ACA Adaptive Paddling Instructor, and a BCU 4-star
paddler. Alison does a great deal of teaching in the DC &
Northern VA area and is well known for her teaching ability.
She is a lead guide and instructor for the following:
• Canoe, Kayak and Paddle Company, Reston, Virginia (2001-present)
• Coastal Kayak, Fenwick Island, Delaware (2003-present)
• Carpe Diem Kayak Company, Fredericksburg, Virginia (2005-present)
• Soaring Spirits Paddle Company, Alexandria, Virginia (2007-present)
• Chesapeake Kayak School, Annapolis, Maryland (2005-2007)
• Potomac Paddlesports, Potomac, Maryland (2002-2007)
Alison also runs a small non-profit kayak school to teach Greenland kayaking

Alison studied theater and lighting design at Mason Gross School of the Arts at
Rutgers University and received degrees in Interior Design and Art History from
Marymount University. She is a member of several glass guilds and was
Chairman of the 2004 Glass Arts Festival, a bi-annual event sponsored by the
National Capitol Art Glass Guild, the Glen Echo Glass Art Consortium, and the
National Park Service. She is also on the faculty at the Washington Glass
School, is a member of Gallery West in Alexandria, and a Torpedo Factory Artist
(come and see her in studio 307).

Here's a little more about me...
Unlike bottle glass, plate glass
and tempered glass are not
recycled. Alison does her own
recycling by reusing these
materials in her art and
keeping them out of the landfill.
Part of the sales price of each
sculpture is used to purchase
carbon offsets in excess of the
impact of the kiln.
By fusing and slumping the
glass several times, Alison
creates glass sculptures that
are organic and remarkably
alive.
